An introduction to me, my bitters, and why you’ll love them
Hi there, and welcome! I’m so glad you’re here.
I’m Janis, the founder and maker behind Pear+Pine, a small-batch line of handcrafted cocktail bitters made with care, curiosity, and a little seasonal magic. This website is where I’ll share my love for cozy cocktails, tips for using bitters in creative ways, and a peek into the world of flavor that inspires every bottle I make.
A Little About Me
My journey into the world of cocktail bitters started 10 years ago with a deep love for seasonal flavors and a passion for crafting drinks that feel like a warm hug (or a cool breeze, depending on the season). Cocktails, to me, are a way to bring comfort, connection, and a little joy into everyday life. With that mindset, I started experimenting with botanicals, spices, and infusions in my own kitchen. Soon, Pear+Pine was born.
So… What Are Cocktail Bitters?
If you’re new to bitters, you’re not alone. Bitters are highly concentrated extracts made by infusing herbs, spices, roots, fruits, or botanicals in alcohol. They’re used in small amounts, just a dash or two, to add depth, complexity, and balance to cocktails (and even mocktails or food recipes!).
Think of bitters as the spice rack of your bar cart. A few drops can turn a simple drink into something layered, aromatic, and elevated.
How to Use Bitters
If you’ve ever had an Old Fashioned or a Manhattan, you’ve already tasted the magic of bitters. But their use goes way beyond the classics. Here are a few simple ways to get started:
Dash into cocktails: Add 1–3 dashes to cocktails like a whiskey sour, gin & tonic, or even sparkling wine.
Enhance non-alcoholic drinks: Try a few drops in sparkling water with a squeeze of citrus.
Experiment in the kitchen: Bitters can add unexpected flavor to desserts, marinades, or even coffee.
Each of my bitters are crafted with a particular season or mood in mind, whether it's a warming spiced blend for winter nights or a floral-citrusy note perfect for spring brunches.
What’s Next?
Through my website, I’ll be sharing seasonal cocktail recipes and ways to use bitters that go beyond the bar. Whether you’re a cocktail connoisseur or just bitters curious, I hope you’ll find inspiration, comfort, and maybe your new favorite cocktail here.
